"Shanghai's Derelict": 13:54

Perhaps my most popular piece, Shanghai's Derelict is a documentary I created on the homeless in Shanghai.

I was inspired to do this project because I found that the homeless in China aroused much more sympathy in me then the homeless do in the United States. They are much more frail and altogether really quite pathetic and helpless. I decided to learn more by interviewing random individuals in the streets and the homeless themselves. My friend Edwin spoke Chinese so I made a list of questions for him to ask people while I filmed and then we translated later and put subtitles in.

The Chinese are a proud people and some were very unpleased with foreigners interviewing the homeless, as you will see.
